Illustrator vs. Photoshop

This week I wanted to talk about the different effects that can be used on websites. Most of these effects believe it or not are created in Illustrator, and are very easily accomplished. I’m currently working on redesigning our site right now and wanted to share a few of the techniques that I came across while I was coming up with a new design. You can view the new design at

To learn a few of the basics of Illustrator, take a look at this site. If you have a basic knowledge of Photoshop, you should be fine with these tutorials. They can get a little tricky if you’ve never used some of the effects in Photoshop, but once you get the hang of things its all pretty simplistic. http://www.ndesign-studio.com/resources/tutorials/

Of course there are several effects that cannot be reached without using both Photoshop and Illustrator, but here are a few of my favorite tutorials that give some of the neat effects seen on various ads today. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/02/05/illustrator-tutorials-best-of/
And for those of you who already know the basics, here’s some advanced tutorials to learn more of the difficult techniques. http://www.khulsey.com/student.html

Personally, I prefer to use both Photoshop and Illustrator when designing a site. Illustrator allows for a much closer color match as well as several techniques that you just can’t quite get with Photoshop alone. For logos, character creation and vector art, Illustrator is definitely the way to go.

Hey impressive post, I genuinely enjoyed it, mainly regarding the second mention that you made. The only thing I have to point out to you would be viewing the website through the Konquerer browser… for some reason it doesn’t appear to load the website and the sidebar seems to break – might want to check that out!

I can not believe the amount of high quality material that is available on this specific web site. The website is quite eye catching as well as drags your reader right in, the posts tend to be fantastic quality and are extremely professionally written. I’ve witnessed too many of these websites where it looks like they pay an 7 year old to perform the writing – Not this place. Your web blog is easily the very best that i have looked at in a long while.
